Vernon County, Missouri

Vernon County is a county located in west central Missouri and has a population of over 21,000 people countywide. Its county seat is Nevada. Vernon County lies between the metropolitan areas of Kansas City to the north and Joplin to the south. Interstate 49 runs through the county.

Activities for any of the four seasons appeal to the outdoor enthusiast with the mild climate experienced in Vernon County. For the avid outdoorsman, the area offers hunting, fishing, camping and trapping. Vernon County has over 16 thousand acres of dedicated conservation land.

Norman Corporation, which opened for business in 1898, remains as the only manufacturer of metal ceilings left in the United States. The 3M Company is Nevada’s largest employer.
